★ Description ★
Stoats are the #1 threat to endangered species in Aotearoa and are responsible for the extinction of numerous bird species. Our client, Te Korowai o Waiheke, currently tracks stoats on Waiheke Island by manually sorting through thousands of images taken from motion-activated camera traps to detect and re-identify individual stoats. Our solution is a web platform that connects team members and conservationists across New Zealand with a novel CLIP-based AI framework for detecting and identifying individual stoats. Researchers can bulk upload a series of images to be analysed by the framework, and the results are grouped by the pictured individual stoat. Ultimately, this solution saves our client hundreds of hours, encourages greater collaboration amongst researchers in Aotearoa, and assists Te Korowai o Waiheke in their goal to be the first predator-free urban island.
