Dittr.
What is Dittr?
Dittr is a social media simulation designed to explore the Dead Internet Theory, and educate users on the dangers of bot activity online. A human user is placed into interest-based communities, wherein a swarm of bots will work to convince them of a predefined opinion. The simulation is designed to be used by a single user at time, and experienced within a relatively short session (up to around 15 minutes,) at which point, all interaction data between the user and the various bots is summarized.
The Dead Internet Theory?
Over the last few years, advances in artificial intelligence have revolutionised the way we can interact with computers, enabling incredibly powerful natural language communication. However, this comes with a downside. These chatbots are more than capable of impersonating a human online, oftentimes realistically enough that the vast majority of people won’t notice. This has given rise to the Dead Internet Theory, positing that a majority of the activity taking place on the modern internet is actually the result of non-humans — bots, manipulating discussions, and pushing agendas.
