Semester 2 2022 Game Development

Terramagotchi

Description

A climate tipping is a point that, if passed, could mean irreversible global changes for the worse. Studies from 2019 estimate that the Earth could pass the climate tipping point by as early as 2027 if we follow our current trajectory and how we treat the planet. A significant issue concerning how we combat rapid global climate change is the lack of knowledge, in the younger generations, on how to care for our planet. This stems from general education lacking environmental focus and hands-on-experience. To combat this ignorance, we propose a virtual simulation of a terrarium for people to explore a small ecosystem and the consequences of various actions performed therein. This will reinforce the concept of climate tipping points - how specific actions can resolve naturally over time, but if pushed too far, the environment may never cover. To tackle this project, our team has already started planning the development of the game. We are a team of give members, each with our own development experience and skill sets. Our pathways through the computer science course tree has given us each varied and extensive skills as a whole. Additionally, the majority of our team members have professional, paid experience developing for others. Our team leader has significant knowledge of the technologies we plan to use. We have prepared and planned for this project and will be ready to meet the challenges presented to us on the way.
